Etruria Tour: Visit Arezzo and Cortona in One Day
Our driver will collect you from your accommodation in the morning just after breakfast, and return you there in the evening. Today your first destination is Arezzo, one of the most important cities of Italy during Etruscan and medieval times. Here you can visit the cathedral with its beautiful stained-glass windows and the church of St. Francis with the famous frescoes by Piero della Francesca. You can also visit the city centre, well known for its fashion ateliers and goldsmithing workshops.
Your hired car will then drive you to the town of Cortona in time for lunch in a typical restaurant, where you may taste the traditional home made pasta called “pici”, followed by a deliciously juicy steak of Chianina meat. Cortona is extraordinarily rich in history: explore its charming Medieval streets, see the Etruscan city walls and visit the Etruscan Museum, one of the richest and most famous in the world.
The great hilltop location makes Cortona one of the jewels of Tuscany, allowing breathtaking views upon the Trasimeno Lake and Valdichiana, a wide valley where tobacco and sunflowers are grown. Wine lovers may also decide to visit one of the wineries of the local wine trail, such as Avignonesi, where you can learn everything about traditional wine-making techniques.
