Day Tour of Umbria I: Assisi – Deruta – Perugia
Your hired car and professional driver will meet you in the morning at your accommodation for this one-day itinerary in Umbria through history and spirituality. Your first destination for the day is Assisi, the hometown of St Francis. You will visit the Basilica of San Francesco with frescoes by Giotto and Cimabue, and the tomb of the Saint. A pleasant walk through the charming medieval streets will take you to the church of Santa Chiara. We also suggest that you visit the ancient Fortress, and you may have lunch in one of the pretty restaurants serving the typical dishes of Umbria.
After lunch meet your driver again and move on to Deruta, a town famous for its majolica ceramics, and learn about the methods of production and the decorative techniques in one of the many workshops. Your next and last stop for the day is Perugia, where you can enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. Walking through the streets of the city centre, you can admire its landmarks: Palazzo dei Priori, San Francesco church and Fontana Maggiore.
